Backing up and restoring clients to USB or flash drive in Lacerte

This article will help you learn how to back up client files to a USB drive, flash drive, thumb drive or memory stick in Lacerte.

Running the Lacerte Backup tool from Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. Download the Lacerte Tool Hub Install file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (lacertetoolhub_setup.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for Lacerte Tool Hub and select the program.

To use Lacerte Backup:

  1. Open the Lacerte Tool Hub.
  2. Select Data from the left menu.
  3. Select Run Lacerte Backup.

To use DMS Printer Repair:

  1. Open the Lacerte Tool Hub.
  2. Select Printing from the left menu.
  3. Select DMS Printer Repair.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the DMS Printer Repair tool.
There is currently no tool available to automate the process of restoring your clients.

Restoring your clients

Follow these steps to restore your clients:

  1. Connect the USB drive into the computer prior to launching Lacerte. If Lacerte is already running, close the Lacerte program.
  2. Right-click and unzip the data backup file to the C: drive.
  3. Open Lacerte.
  4. Go to the desired tax module.
  5. From the Client menu, select Restore.
  6. In the Restore Clients window, click the Browse... button.
  7. Locate and click on the USB drive letter, and then select OK.
  8. Select the client(s) you want to restore.
  9. Select OK in the Restore Clients window.
