When opening Lacerte the sign in screen is blank or does not allow typing

When attempting to sign in to your Lacerte Tax software, the Sign In screen does not show the fields to enter your user name and password, or the fields are present, but you cannot type in your sign-in information.

Switching authentication widget modes when unable to login to Lacerte 2020:

The following steps will only work in Lacerte 2020 and newer. If you are troubleshooting Lacerte 2019 or earlier, proceed to either Option 2 or 3.

  1. Open Lacerte.
  2. On the Sign In screen, right-click on the Intuit Accountants logo and choose Compatibility Mode.

  3. Open Lacerte again and attempt to sign in once more.

If the sign-in screen still does not load correctly, try one of the other options below.

Step 1: Download and install the Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. Download the Lacerte Tool Hub Install file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (LacerteToolsHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the Tool Hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for Lacerte Tool Hub and select the program.

Step 2: Using the tool in the Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. From within the Lacerte Tool Hub, select Login.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the Fix Login Window tool.
  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer.
  3. From This PC choose Windows C:
  4. Open the ##Tax folder where ## is the year (Ex. 20TAX , 19TAX).
  5. Open the w##tax.exe.config file. (Ex. w20tax.exe.config , w19tax.exe.config) If asked what program you want to open the file in, choose Notepad.
  6. Find the <appSettings> section.
  7. Locate the line below,
    • <!--<add key="Intuit.Spc.Authorization.EmbeddedWebBrowserImplementation" value="Standard"/>-->
  8. Remove <!-- and --> from the beginning and end of the line so it looks like this,
    • <add key="Intuit.Spc.Authorization.EmbeddedWebBrowserImplementation" value="Standard"/>
  9. From the File menu choose Exit. When prompted to save choose Yes.
  10. Open Lacerte and try to sign in again.

Note: These steps must be performed for each year of the program you are experiencing this issue and will need to be performed after each update.
