Intuit's consistent noncommittal "assistance," as is tradition, covering all its bases while confirming nothing.  Can I transfer last year's PDF to 2021 TurboTax for Mac? (intuit.com) Can I transfer last year's PDF into the 2021 TurboTax for Windows CD/Download software? (intuit.com) Can I convert my PDF into a tax data file, or vice-versa? (intuit.com) 🙈 🙉 🙊

Just because I'm procrastinating, here's what TaxAct says Importing from Another Tax Program (taxact.com) "TaxAct® can import data from PDF files of 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ returns prepared by the following software: TurboTax® and H&R Block At Home®." Not looking to start any arguments, but PDF is a PDF is a PDF, no? Would a Lacerte PDF be comparable to TurboTacks® PDF? (Yes I know if I keep up this pace of procrastinating, I will go blind!)

Maybe I'm not following your question but... Extended End Date for Windows 8.1 is January 10, 2023 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-81 Are you wanting to continue to use 8.1 without ongoing security patches from Microsoft? Even if Intuit permits it? And you're going to do this IN JANUARY?  👀 https://proconnect.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/product-system-requirements/lacerte-system-requirements/L4QtkL7WO_US_en_US Presume the above Requirements will update as HRH @IntuitGabi deems fit. 😉

If you have interest in Settings you may try... Unsure if you are able to change Defaults/Configure acceptable Display in Options, and then revoke Trustee Rights to lock-out any further Display changes by Users  Settings > Primary Options [Tax type] Primary Options > Trustee Rights Rights > [Uncheck] Adjust User Options Be prepared to explain why Users cannot adjust their own PC settings (Font size, etc.) for best performance. Murky deep diving as Administrator versus Users in Lacerte land in my experience. Bonne chance!

Being cast to Relay / translate between Partner (founder, managing partner & tax expert, but caveman) and Liability Agent (means well) has taken its toll. Apologies to all for stepping on any toes.

From Thom$on T@x (U1tra T@x) support, and I quote: At this time, we do not have guidance on using BitLocker or other encryption tools with ... data. I am not aware of any problems that this would cause, although it may decrease system performance. Please note that if there are performance issues with BitLocker enabled, our support team may have limited resources to assist (and we may need you to disable BitLocker or move the data to an unencrypted location as a troubleshooting step). Yes, we do not offer support for data stored on encrypted drives, so any issues involving (Microsoft) BitLocker, may inhibit troubleshooting. Yes, especially SQL applications. I gladly will quote Intuit's drive encryption stance, however I have yet to discover it. Pretty please a little help? @IntuitGabi @AshleyatIntuit  @kreinard @Jack4 @IntuitKatieB @ssanchez @mdavolio @Kathi_at_Intuit  Thanks. PS. Should this posting placement run afoul of Community luminaries I am open to all suggestions where best it should have been posted rather than Lacerte Tax. Perhaps if there was an "All Hands" category? Post Community-wide for relevant technology questions. Anyone who is not using a Hosted solution will hit this wall eventually on premises. No, Intuit is not my IT Department, I merely want to know the instructions for successful use of their product that I pay dearly to license. Again, thanks

Since I find no specific mention in Articles from Intuit... (cough @IntuitGabi ) @abctax55 @TaxGuyBill  Any tips specific to BitLocker use/implementation now that you have history with it in place? Liability Insurance applications all pointing towards encryption of “data at rest” inevitability. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
And next time... I'll actually read the query word, for word!

Dear @IntuitGabi  2021 Lacerte allows log-in, displays itself intact and then slams shut closed. This has happened multiples days in a row. And it occurs in waves. Windows Reliability Monitor tells me...   And then gives me these details which, if I could understand, I wouldn't be prepping tax returns.
