Two returns in one envelope has the danger of (a) being stapled together when they arrive and IRS and (b) only one of them being processed. If you elect to do this again, but each in a separate envelope and put the two envelopes in one big envelope, or even better - mail each separately. Envelopes are much cheaper than all the grief you are currently experiencing.
