1099R, Code 7. Gross amount & taxable different.  But Gross amount not transferring to FM 1040, line 4a.  Have to go to schedules, 1040 worksheet to determine if 1099R was recorded correctly.  Contact support, was unable to provide answer on why IRA Gross amount not transferring.  Is it tax law that doesn't require IRA gross amount or software issue?

Please see Form 1040 Instructions for line 4a  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf pages 28 and 29.

It's not a 'good reason' but it's as required by IRS.

Form 1040, 4a reads "IRAs, Pensions & Annuities".  So, gross should be there.

Here's my scenario, I had a client who had filed their own 1040 SR this year, it needed to be amended, whatever free filing software they used it ended up populating box 4A & 4B (same amounts) in order for me to recreate the tax I had to manipulate lacerte a bit. I ended up using codes 7 (normal distribution) and Q (qualified distribution from a ROTH IRA) - using that code combination will populate boxes 4A and 4B. Not sure if this is any help to you, but in the event you need to recreate a tax like myself this worked
