I have a joint return with two fairly long last names.  The program wants me to use only the Taxpayer's middle initial and the Spouse's first name, initial only in order to e-file or else it rejects.  I have been filing returns for this couple for over 5 years and this is the first year I am dealing with this issue.  Anyone else experiencing this?  What changed this year?

The system keys off the first four letters of the last name, so you should be fine despite the diagnostic.

It's an informational diagnostic, right?

No it is not an informational diagnostic-it was in prior years.  This year it is critical and it actually will not let me file the return electronically.

No clue... I have one with extremely long last names too.  And I just made them longer as a test.

I get an informational diagnostic.
