This article will help you when:

  • When attempting to unlock a client file you may receive a message stating:
    •  To unlock a return after requesting signatures, please go to the E-File menu and select Cancel Request for Signatures.
  • When you choose the E-file menu, the option to cancel signature request is grayed out.

To resolve the error:

  1. Open Lacerte to the Clients tab.
  2. Highlight the client file. 
  3. From the E-file menu select Step: 1 Print e-file Signature Document.
  4. Select Cancel Request for Signatures.
