Before you start:

  • The instructions provided below will remove a state or federal tax formset completely from the ProSeries tax program. Once uninstalled, no tax returns will be able to use the forms that were uninstalled.
    • Example: the California individual and New York individual state formsets are uninstalled. New and previously completed tax returns won't be able to complete, view, or file a California or New York state tax return.
  • If you want to leave the state or city installed for future use but need to remove it from a tax return, click here.
  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

If ProSeries is installed as a stand alone:

  1. Close all ProSeries products.
  2. In the Windows search enter Control Panel.
  3. Select Uninstall a program.
  4. Double-click on the year of ProSeries.
  5. A list of all installed federal and state products will show.
  6. Select the federal or state product you want to remove and select Uninstall.
  7. Open File Explorer.
  8. Browse to C:\ProWinYY\Updates for ProSeries Professional or C:\BasWinYY\Updates for ProSeries Basic.
  9. Press CTRL + A to select everything in the Updates folder.
  10. Press Delete key to clear out the old updates.
  11. Open ProSeries.

To uninstall a federal or state product from a network install

  1. Close all ProSeries products.
  2. On the admin computer open File Explorer.
  3. Browse to X:\ProNetYY\Updates
  4. Delete the .inv for the form you are trying to remove.
    • For example if you were removing the 1040 delete 1040.inv
    • If you were removing the 1120S delete 1120S.inv
  5. Delete the .rtp and .ver files for the forms you are removing.
    • For example if you were removing the 1040 delete wfdipor.rtp and wfdipro.ver
    • If you were removing the 1040NR delete wfdnpro.rtp and wfdnpro.ver
  6. In the Windows search enter Control Panel.
  7. Select Uninstall a program.
  8. Double-click on the year of ProSeries.
  9. A list of all installed federal and state products will show.
  10. Select the federal or state product you want to remove and select Uninstall.
  11. Open File Explorer.
  12. Browse to X:\ProNetYY\_AutoDL20YY_Core.
  13. Open the prodsel.lyt file in Notepad.
  14. Remove the entry for the set of forms you just uninstalled. Then close and save the file.
  15. Repeat steps 6 through 10 on each workstation on the network.
At least one federal product is required to be installed to be able to open ProSeries Professional.
