Help Articles
Before you start:
- Calculate all client files in your original program.
- Remove any locks.
- Remove any passwords.
- Remove overrides made on forms which create new input fields.
- Be sure to rollover all client files from the prior year program. Failure to do so will result in those files returning with a "corrupt" status.
- This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.
What types of returns can I submit for data conversion?
How do I backup my data for conversion?
- Create a new folder on your C: drive named ConversionData before you begin the backup process. For example, C:\ConversionData.
- Open ATX, and in Return Manager, check the box for each return you want to back up or to select all clients, choose the View menu, then Show All Returns, then click View, and Mark All Displayed Returns.
- On the menu bar, click Returns, then Export Marked Returns.
- In the Export Marked Returns dialog box, select the Drive and/or Folder for your backup (set the drive path to C:\ConversionData).
- Click the OK button.
- Browse to C:\ProgramData\WoltersKluwer\ATX 20YY Server\ATX 20YY Files.
- Please note that C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder. To access this folder, Click Start and type Run in Search Programs and Files and click Enter. Type C:\ProgramData in the Run window and click OK. Navigate to the folder mentioned above.
- Right-click on the FormsetData folder and choose Copy.
- Browse to C:\ConversionData, right-click in an empty space and choose Paste.
How do I verify my backup is correct?
- Open C:\ConversionData to view the files that have been backed up.
- A valid ATX backup contains files with an extension of .atx18Export. You will have one file for every client you are submitting.
- You should also have a folder FormsetData.
What items will be converted?
The main purpose of this conversion is to get your data ready for the following tax year. Therefore, viewing a Form 1040 will not display the same results that had been filed. The conversion is very limited and includes only the basic information in the following PDF document.
