On an individual New York return marked as amended, an error can occur when going to the Check Return tab and selecting NY forms. You may see such messages as "Error 500," "Error Loading Diagnostics," or "Error Fetching Return."

The errors are triggered by an entry on the Business Income (Sch C) screen, under the section labeled New York Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District (MCTD) Business Allocation. The checkbox Allocate entire (100%) net profit/loss to MCTD, combined with amended return entries, will cause the program's calculation engine to fail.

To resolve the error:

1. Go to the Input Return tab.
2. From the left of the screen, select Payments, Penalties, and Extensions.
3. Go to the 2022 Estimated Tax (1040-ES) screen.
4. In the Estimate options (click on arrow to select from list) [Override] fields, select 9=Suppress estimates and ES Worksheets.
