Entering Paid Family Leave on Form 1099-G for California

SOLVEDby Intuit327Updated almost 2 years ago

In Lacerte, how do you enter California Paid Family Leave (PFL) amounts from Form 1099-G?

How to enter California PFL from Form 1099-G

Per the 2021 California Instructions for Schedule CA (540) for line 7:

Payments received from the PFL Program are reported on federal Form 1099-G, Certain Government Payments. California excludes payments received from the PFL program from taxable income. Enter on line 7, column B the amount of PFL payments shown in column A. For more information, get FTB Pub. 1001.

The amount should be entered as ordinary Unemployment Compensation:

  1. Go to Screen 14.2, State Tax Refunds, Unemployment Comp.
  2. Under the Sections panel, select Federal.
  3. Scroll down to the Federal section.
  4. Under the Unemployment Compensation subsection, enter the amount as Total Received (1).
