Resolving missing client files from HomeBase in ProSeries

SOLVEDby Intuit6Updated November 28, 2023

There are a few things that can cause a client file to disappear in HomeBase. It doesn't always mean the data file itself is missing, but your settings could cause the file to appear missing. Below are common solutions for missing client files.

Reset your filters in ProSeries 2020 and newer

Starting in ProSeries 2020, the new HomeBase allows you to customize your view and automatically saves your changes. This can sometimes make it seem like clients are disappearing, when in fact they're simply hidden due to a filter or your custom sorting settings.

From the HomeBase menu, select Reset Current View to clear any filter or custom sorting that may currently be set. If the client file still doesn't appear, try the other solutions below.

Clients are disappearing on the EF Center HomeBase View

If clients are disappearing only on the EF Center, you may be filtered to one of the predefined filters available via the tabs at the top of the HomeBase.

Try these solutions to resolve the issue:

  • Select the All tab and look for the client there.
  • From the HomeBase menu, select Reset Current View to clear any filter or custom sorting that may currently be set.

Performing maintenance on the database

This can be caused when the HomeBase database files and the client file Data folder become out of sync with each other. Running a Database Maintenance can often solve this.

Starting in tax year 2020 the Database Maintenance tool has been replaced with a new and improved HomeBase Maintenance tool. For details on the change, see here.

To run HomeBase Maintenance in ProSeries 2020 and newer:

  1. Go to HomeBase and change your Homebase View to the main view impacted such as the Form 1040: Individual.
    • HomeBase Maintenance is not available on special views such as the All Tax Return view, EF Center, or Pay-by-Refund
  2. From the HomeBase menu, select HomeBase Maintenance.
  3. Let it run! HomeBase Maintenance will fix any issues it encounters automatically.

To run DataBase Maintenance in tax year 2019 and prior:

  1. Go to HomeBase and change your Homebase View to the main view impacted such as the Form 1040: Individual.
    • HomeBase Maintenance is not available on special views such as the All Tax Return view, EF Center, or Pay-by-Refund
  2. From the HomeBase menu, select Database Maintenance.
  3. Verify the correct folder is selected for your client files, then click OK.
  4. If there are inconsistencies between your Homebase database and client data files are found, the HomeBase Reconciliation dialog box will appear.
    • Click Show Details to view a list of files in each category.
    • Click Fix It to synchronize your client files and HomeBase.
    • Click Help for more information about the HomeBase Reconciliation dialog box.
  5. Click Recheck to ensure that you have fixed any inconsistencies.
  6. Click Close.
  7. To perform maintenance on a different view, such as 1120 or 1065, select the view and repeat the above steps.
Run HomeBase Tune-Up in ProSeries 2019 and prior:
  1. From the HomeBase menu, select HomeBase Tune-Up.
  2. Select the Yes button to close the program.
  3. Select the OK button on the HomeBase Tune-Up is complete window.
  4. Wait for ProSeries to re-open.
