Account Files Locking Sequence Error

Problem Description

When attempting to launch ProSeries or when trying to authorize, print, or e-file a return; the error occurs: "Account files locking sequence error." or " Account files locking key is invalid."

Solution Description:

To resolve this issue you must be at the computer where ProSeries is installed and contact Customer Service at (800)434-6818.

Once you have reached Customer Service, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on OK in the message dialog box to clear error.
  2. From the Tools menu...
    1. Hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard.
    2. Choose Pay-Per-Return then release the Ctrl key.
  3. From the Pay-Per-Return Support Tools menu, click Reset File Version.
    • If an error is received, the program will need to be reinstalled.
  4. Have the code ready under Provide this number to the customer service representative.
  5. Enter the code provided by Customer Service after Enter Authorization Code and click OK.
