2017 Form 114 (FBAR), Conditional Acceptance due to Error Code D25, E28, and E48

Problem

FinCEN processed the FBAR but they returned a conditional acceptance of Code D25, Code E28, or Code E48.

Each Code states to verify all address and zip code fields do not contain special characters or formatting such as hyphens, periods, and spaces.

Solution

A conditional acceptance is a type of "Accepted" acknowledgement issued by FinCEN provided the formatting issues referenced by the agency are corrected prior to resubmitting the FBAR for full acceptance.

As each code suggests, verify all pertinent address related fields do not contain special characters as mentioned earlier.

An example would be a domestic zip code that contains a hyphen in between the zip code and the 4-digit extension, or a foreign postal zip code that contains a space in between the characters, such as is common in Canada, for example.  See image below.

Verify each Financial Account's address related information within Form 114, pages 2-5 (Part II, III, IV, or V), make the correction(s) needed then submit a new amended FBAR.  For more information on how to amend a previously amended FBAR, reference Article 48920.
